Unexpected Days Are Always The Best! Dom Perignon, Insignia, and Conterno...

The unexpected nights are always the most fun! We had a great group of friends in yesterday and all of them popped amazing wines!

The 1992 Dom Perignon was one of my favorites with notes of toffee, caramel, quince, and Fuji apple.

I loved the 1982 Conterno Granbussia Barolo! One of the top producers from a stellar vintage, what is there not to love. The wine was well into its tertiary stage of life with lays of barnyard, wet earth, dried black fruit, clove, bay leaves, and truffle. I let the wine open for almost 3 hours before I finished my glass and it was still going strong.

Another fun treat was the 1986 Phelps Insignia. I blinded it as a 85 Opus One because of the beautiful fruit and still semi powerful tannins. The wine showed black raspberry and worn leather mixed with half the spice rack. This wine has had a good run and while it is on the backside of its life I think it still have another 2-3 good years in the bottle.
