Flora and Fauna Imports Wine Tasting

NV Veuve J Lanaud Cuvee Cinquantenaire Blanc de Blancs 750ml $45

Tasting Notes: The Cuvée du Cinquantenaire Blanc de Blancs from Veuve J.Lanaud is exclusively elaborated from Chardonnay. This Cuvée deeply reflects its terroir, and it is vinified in a beautiful transparent bottle from which the nice golden colour seduces immediately. This prestigious champagne was awarded with the gold medal at 2001 FEMINALISE contest in Beaune. This Blanc de Blancs champagne has subtles exotic fruits and citrus aromas, and it is extremely pleasant to drink and very accessible.

2019 Cole Ranch R2 Riesling 750ml $35

Tasting Notes: From the original Cole Ranch Riesling plantings in 1973, this wine was harvested 12 days later and saw no foot treading but went straight to press. Kabinett in style, dry, but was fermented in larger 500L barrels so the texture comes from the ferment and not the skin. A broader wine than the earlier harvested Riesling, yet just as fresh. Zero additions were made to this wine, until the end where 10ppm of So2 was added.

2017 Rootdown Cellars Cole Ranch Pinot Noir 750ml $39

Tasting Notes: This pinot is not like any you've ever had - more purple fruit than red, with hints of plum, mountain blackberry, and thyme. Gamay-esque tannins on the palate. Re-grafted in 2002, this Pinot Noir is the youngest block currently in production at Cole Ranch Vineyard. A pure expression of Alpine Pinot Noir. The core of this wine is tight with a cooling sensation on the palate. Nothing compares to this expression.

2016 Virna Noi. Barolo 750ml $50

Tasting Notes:With a ruby-red color, the Barolo has a rich, elegant and subtle bouquet which gradually recalls the scents of violets, plums and cherries; the spices cinnamon, pepper and licorice, as well as tobacco and white truffle. It has a dry and well-balanced flavor: thick at first with a dense and velvet consistency, then elegant, harmonic and in the end lingering. Bearing up well against ageing, the Barolo begins to open out around the fourth year and comes into its own around the eighth - tenth year.

2016 Virna Sarmassa Cru Barolo 750ml $99

Tasting Notes:This has a fascinating nose with ripe pomegranate, boysenberries, dried raspberries, tea leaves and dried spices. Full-bodied and dense, but the tannins are quite seamless and the acidity is agile and flowing throughout. Long and persistent on the finish.
