Within walking distance from Krug’s “Clos du Mesnil” vineyard, past Pierre Peters’ “Chetillons,” and next to to the tiny, collector’s dream house of Champagne Salon, two families of vignerons take their stab at the terroir that many consider the "best in Champagne".
We were downright floored to find one as spot on true to this special terroir as Gimonnet-Gonet. All the majesty of Mesnil Blanc de Blancs for less than $60? This is not to be missed!
Starting with just 5 hectares in 1986 the estate now covers 13.5 hectares, mainly in Grand Cru villages of La Côte des Blancs: Chouilly, Cramant, Oiry, Oger and Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger - the heartland of Chardonnay.
In the winery, the preservation of the work done previously in the vineyards naturally progresses; accordingly waiting until the grapes achieve their optimum maturity before starting harvesting and by doing so preserving all their organoleptic quality.
The winery is equipped to press separately the grapes from each different village and even from each different plot whenever possible. Consequently they can achieve the utmost consistency and precision in the blends.
