About the Wine
The Philippon family of Château de Fleys are really intriging and somewhat unusual producers, making wines of significant body and character without ever going against their Chablisian origins.
The history of the Château de Fleys estate begins with the arrival of Julien Philippon in Fleys at the end of the 19th century. Originally from Vezelay (Morvan) where he worked as a lumberjack, he settled in the Chablis area and bought wood, land and vines which still make up almost the entire estate today.
After pheloxera destroyed most of the vineyards in France, Julien, on the advice of an old winemaker and general counseler in Chablis, was certainly the first to plant the American rootstock 161-49 in 1936, vines still in production at the place called "Les Monts de Milieu".

Since then, the estate has been handed down from father to son. Today, Julien's great-grandchildren (Béatrice, Benoît and Olivier, who arrived in 2007) run the estate, respecting the family tradition but also modernising to improve the quality of the wines.
The Vieilles Vignes Chardonnay Mont de Milieu comes from original 1936 vines in two small parcels planted high on the hill in notably thin and rocky soil just under the crown of forest. The parcels total 1.7 acres. They’re hand-harvested and most of the wine is raised in steel with one or two 600L demi-muids.
Tasting Notes:
Vinification and fermentation 20% French oak barrels and 80% in stainless steel. Maturation is done on yeasts for 16 months in stainless steel.
Complex and elegant bouquet, with fruity hints of peach, apple and apricot and floral notes of white flowers. Great minerality with hints of citrus, almond and a persistant, elegant finish delivering excellent flavor and freshness.
