About the Wine

Nestled in one of the most studied wine regions in the world, for its unique geography and consistant wind paterns, northern Spain is home to the Bodega Borsao winery. The entire wine estate and farm are centered around and powered by the unrelenting and extremely predictable winds. A product of geographic location and terrain, the wind plays a key role in not only the quality and production of the grapes and vinification of the wines, it powers everything that the farm does.

Organic and sustainable is the name of the game for Alto Moncayo. Between the groves of olive and almond trees, the 100+ year old Garnacha vines are nurtured by the fertility and minerality of the rocky and steep sloped soil, and dry farming practices help the vines dig meters into the terroir to retrieve the essence of the mountain. Harvesting and sorting is done completely by hand and a minimal intervention approach is taken to vinify the wine. The end product is a jaw-droppingly memorable and crowd pleasing red.

Tasting Notes:

The wine opens to an amalgam of minerals and unctuous super-ripe berries. Palate: Deep, rich and ripe. Black fruits (cherries, plums) give way to hints of liquorice, molasses and a hint of cinnamon. Solid tannins and focused acidity with a long finish.
