Review 2018 Jean Luc Colombo Cornas Les Terres Brulees 750ml
About the Wine
“Grand Classique” from the terroirs of Cornas.
“Les Terres Brûlées” (The Roasted Earth) is the prettiest expression of Syrah from the Cornas appellation. Coming from a mixture of 20 to 60 year old vines, this wine is a subtle blend of specially selected plots. These steep, rugged vineyards produce wines with bold character and smoky minerality, and Colombo captures that soul beautifully.

Colombo is a pioneer in Cornas, one of the first to bring global attention to the appellation. He’s respected for revitalizing Syrah in the region, using sustainable viticulture, zero pesticides, zero irrigation and minimal intervention in the cellar. His wines are honest expressions of place—not overly polished, but deeply soulful.
Known worldwide for his wines, Jean-Luc is also renowned, for his friendliness, generosity and sense of hospitality. He fiercely defends the identity and richness of the French gastronomic heritage.
His family all have a hand in crafting these delicous wines. Anne, his wife, is the vineyard specialist, and his daughter Laure oversees the winery.
Tasting Notes:
Laure Colombo builds this cuvée from an array of estate parcels. Her 2018 is lush, smooth and immediately appealing, a fountain of purple-plum fruit pouring from its center. Notes of lilacs and red raspberry keep it buoyant, while chocolatey tannins hold it firm. It’s ready to enjoy, though it wouldn’t be a bad idea to forget a few bottles in the cellar.
