I'm sure you have heard of Thomas Rivers Brown and the colaborations and original creations over the many years that he has been crafting fine wines in Napa. Some of his projects are of the lesser known variety and it is my pleasure to introduce the 2018 Flint Knoll Royal Appointment. In 2018 they gave Thomas the initiative to design a wine that can stand up to the best that Napa Valley has to offer. With stellar vineyards and an outstanding vintage, he was able to create a very intriguing and delicious product.
This wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot coming from two vineyards in Oakville and Oak Knoll. The juice is aged for 15 months in 50% new French oak barrels. Only 250 cases were produced.
First appearance is a heavenly deep aubergine color which then opens with the most beautifuly aromatic nose of red rose and lilac. Black cherry compote, boysenberry jam, bits of cinnamon, tilled earth, steeped black tea, sweet tobacco and freshly trodden leaves flood the palate. The wine is full-bodied, rich, and seductive with incredibly perfumed fruit, silky tannins, a satiny texture and long finish. TRB has crafted a well-balanced wine with astonishing fruit intensity and a rewarding palate.
