About the Wine

Petit Verdot is a finicky little grape packed with a lot of power. It is usually the last to ripen during harvest. As a specialty wine it is developing quite a following. Petit Verdot contributes a beautiful deep color and black fruit flavor to their Lake William blend. Also, a small amount of the crop is bottled 100% varietal. This provides you a unique tasting experience of a varietal not commonly seen unblended.

Upon harvest, Jarvis Estate grapes are carried to the cave in small 30 pound lugs. We utilize these small bins rather than gondolas so as not to prematurely crush any of the grapes. After entering the cave, the grapes will not see the light of day again until they leave the cave as carefully aged Jarvis Estate wine.

The 2016 Petit Verdot is a 100% varietal wine with a vibrant violet color abundant in depth and dimension. Aromas of warm baking spices and dark red fruits harmonize with wet stone, sage, and oolong tea. Impressive weight on the palate is met with structured tannin, hints of lavender and natural mineral flavor that makes its way to a smooth, clean finish. This wine was aged entirely in new French oak, which helped it achieve a refined elegance and grace. The grapes for all Jarvis wines are grown on hillside vineyards, which were originally planted in 1986. The winery and vineyards are located in the Vaca mountain range, about 1,000 feet above the valley floor and four miles east of the city of Napa. The cool mountain growing region provides moderate temperatures for optimum ripening of the grapes.
