Tenuta Prima Pietra focuses on producing wines using primarily Cabernet Franc and Merlot grape varieties. The terroir of the Maremma region, characterized by its coastal climate and unique soil composition, plays a significant role in the characteristics of the wines produced at Tenuta Prima Pietra.
The vineyard area is located on the highest hill near Riparbella, on the Tuscan coast just south of Livorno. A blend of 50% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot, this has the classic energy of a great Super Tuscan, such as Sassicaia, but with a touch more freshness due to elevation and coastal influences.
Prima Pietra sees 18 months in 50% new French oak, with the varieties aged separately for the first ten months before blending and aging for an additional eight. 2015 was a perfect vintage: very dry and hot in the summer followed by perfect September conditions, gifting the wine with elegant and soft tannins and a long, bright red-fruited savory finish.
